Our Story
Welcome to our "third space." We are Jerry and America Fushianes, and for us, the story of this historic landmark is a journey defined by legacy, community, and service. Our path began in Detroit, Michigan, where our foundations were first formed. In 2006, Jerry’s deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom brought our family to Tomah, a transition we now recognize as a path that was clearly meant for us. What began as a season of military service quickly grew into a deep-rooted love for this community and the breathtaking beauty of the Wisconsin landscape, we now call our home. Having spent our lives dedicated to service and healing, we believe our mission is to provide more than just a place to sit; we are here to cultivate an environment for genuine restoration. Brick & Bean was born from America’s lifelong love of her coffee ritual. To her, this morning tradition has always been a source of comfort and a necessary calm before the busy day, a quiet time to connect with her faith and set her heart for the day ahead. We envisioned this space to share that same sense of peace with you.By blending Tomah's historic roots with refined, artful energy, we’ve created a destination where the character of the past meets the comforts of today. We believe in an experience that is “Grounded by Brick & Elevated by Bean”, offering a space where you can truly feel at home.Under these historic rafters, we offer three ways for you to belong:
- Brick & Bean: Your restorative destination. We chose to serve and sell Bella Goose Coffee and artisan syrups because of their deep commitment to faith-based ethics and sustainable mission. Whether you are sinking into a cozy lounge chair, gathering for "elevation through table talk," or unplugging with our "take-a-book, leave-a-book" library and vintage board games, this is your place to find a momentary retreat and a meaningful break in your day.
- Brick Sip Haus: The cornerstone for your milestones. From professional corporate gatherings to intimate family celebrations, our historic charm provides a versatile and inviting backdrop for every event. We also love to celebrate through our signature themed dress-up nights, from the springtime elegance of our Kentucky Derby party to the nostalgic "speakeasy" energy of our annual Prohibition event.
- Brick Productions: Our creative heartbeat. From our writers group crafting new narratives to our monthly comedy nights and theatre plays, we believe in the power of storytelling to unite and inspire.

"Grounded in BRICK": This honors the physical and historical foundation of the venue. Brick & Bean is built within the existing Brick Sip Haus, a prominent downtown location known for its "vintage vibe" and historical brick walls. It signals stability, legacy, and deep roots in our Tomah community.· "Elevated by BEAN": This represents the craft and innovation being introduced. The shop features ethically sourced, artisan-roasted coffee from Bella Goose Coffee, aiming to transform a standard morning routine into an intentional ritual. The word "elevated" suggests a superior level of quality in both the product (espresso, lattes, and pour-overs) and the experience (cozy seating and thoughtful design).
